Artwork Description
The picture book "The Peony Pavilion" is based on the play of the same name by Tang Xianzu in the Ming dynasty. It depicts the story of Du Liniang, an official's daughter, who falls in love with Liu Mengmei, a young scholar in her dream. She dies of her lovesickness, but her spirit lingers in the earthly world in search of her lover. The human and the ghost fall in love with each other, and in the end, she rises from the dead and finally ties the knot with Liu Mengmei.
