The Ninghai “Ten-Mile Red Dowry” wedding tradition is recognised as an item of national intangible cultural heritage. Presented through the contemporary medium of the picture book, lively and accessible visual storytelling dispels the impression that intangible heritage is obscure or dull. In doing so, the work strengthens readers’ cultural memory of and emotional connection to the tradition, broadens its influence and supports its preservation and continuation.
