Artwork Description
This series began with the children I met while volunteering. Unconcerned with adult intentions, they gave themselves entirely to whatever brought them pure joy. At times, although we occupied the same space, they seemed to inhabit a world of their own, as though they had conjured heaven and were lingering within it. Working in black and white, I sought to capture this childhood joy through rhythms of tone, looking beyond simple cuteness to convey a genuine sense of awe at their existence.
They simply build heaven out of sand.
They simply leap into heaven
All they need for their heaven are a few plastic bags
Their heaven unfolds anytime, anywhere...
...simply from a chair, even in the middle of the night
