Artwork Description
The sound of Papa’s sewing machine once filled their home: Snip! Whirr! Clank! Click! Click! Click! Then everything changed, and the house fell silent. This is a story of love, loss, and the bond between two fathers and their child, woven together through the craft of sewing. It was inspired by my Nani, by the crafts she practised and the things she made with love.
The Fabric of Us
Every morning, the sound filled our home - Snip! Whirr! Clank! Click! Click! Click! It was the sound of Papa making colourful clothes. But he never made anything for himself.
I waited for the sound to come back. But it didn't.
I got Papa's favourite thread and gave it to Dad. I knew we had to work together to bring the sound back.
We went out and got everything we needed—fabric, thread and needles.
