The Whale Who Came Home

Artwork Description

This series captures the resilient vitality of Antarctic wildlife and the miracle of nature’s rebirth in the wake of human industrial retreat. An expedition to Antarctica ten years ago left me with indelible impressions of nature’s awe-inspiring power and the brutal history of whaling. Grytviken, once the largest whaling centre on South Georgia, now stands abandoned, reclaimed by wildlife as a sanctuary.

Look at the old ship that has slept for so long... Now, it has become a steel castle where the penguins love to gather.

A penguin dives into the cool, deep sea, gliding past an ancient anchor to begin an underwater adventure.

Most exciting of all, even the great whales have finally returned to this quiet bay.

Spreading their wide wings, albatrosses soar through the sky, looking down at the seals and penguins sunbathing on the shore.

As the snow melts away, Antarctic flowers quietly start to bloom, one by one.
